Electraglide Festival preview

Electraglide, one of Japan’s most forward thinking music events, is making a welcome return after a three year hiatus. Launched twelve years ago, the event is synonymous with top quality electronic music and has played host to some of the biggest names in the game – such as Richie Hawtin, Underworld, Warp Records and Sasha.

We can only presume that the past three years have been spent feverishly squirreling away money for this year’s event, because the line up is so crammed full with great artists it is hard to tell exactly who the ‘headliner’ is. Not only about the music, this event promises to push the boundaries of a true audio-visual experience; with two of the world’s most cutting edge multimedia artists performing. A few months ago we reported about Amon Tobin’s stunning live concept, ‘Isam’, and Electraglide will play host to it’s debut performance in Japan. Squarepusher, another exponent of innovative live shows, will also return to Japan with his Daft Punk-esque LED headgear to repeat the performance that went down a storm at this year’s Sonarsound show.

The festival will also see a welcome return to Japanese shores for Flying Lotus and in a strong display of UK talent old and new, the inimitable Four Tet, indie-dance legend Andrew Weatherall and the mysterious Kode 9 will all be making the dance floor shake. All of this will be happening inside the cavernous space of Makuhari Messe in late November and with many more acts still to be announced, this is certainly looking like one of the most talked about events of the year.
