Good news for the nocturnal inhabitants of Tokyo, as the first two events at the newest clubbing space in Tokyo, going by the rather long-winded name “Sound Museum Vision”, have been announced.
The project, which has been produced by the same people behind the Air nightclub in Ebisu and boasts a capacity of 1500 people, looks set to be a new major player in the Tokyo club scene. The venue will be on 4 underground floors and will have a rather impressive 6 bars, not to mention a state of the art sound–system specifically designed for the venue. Located near Mark City in the Dogenzaka area of Shibuya, it will most certainly be treading on the toes of Shibuya’s hitherto No. 1 dance music Mecca, Womb.
The club will open it’s doors on October 28th with a line up that will feature a clutch of Japan’s top jocks. While the line-up can hardy be called star-studded in an international sense (perhaps a sign of the economic climate they are opening in), native DJs such as DJ Krush, Ken Iishi and Kaoru Inoue will provide a varied platter of musical treats to accompany the celebratory champagne.
After a packed out performance at this year’s Summersonic festival one of the legends of UK dance music, Manchester’s Hacienda nightclub, will return to Japan with an event at the club the following weekend. The people of Tokyo can relive the heady days of whistles, white gloves and smiley faces with UK heavyweights Basement Jaxx and Justin Robertson taking control of the main floor. Tokyo Indie has also been asked to join the event, as I do battle with Mike Munoz in a back to back set in the London Calling lounge.
