The original Manchester Hacienda nightclub may have long been consigned to rubble, making way for a trendy new housing development, but the party ethos lives on in Japan through the Hacienda events, which have been a regular fixture on the Tokyo party calendar over the past 18 months. This April will see the inaugural Audio/ Hacienda festival taking place on the first weekend of the Golden Week holiday, featuring a raft of exciting international talent descending on the beach-side resort of Oiso for two days of sun, sea, sand and hedonism.
The event will take place at the breath-taking Oiso Prince Hotel resort in Kanagawa, with acts playing on three spectacular indoor and outdoor stages specially constructed for the event. Located less than an hour outside of Tokyo, Oiso is the perfect place to forget the stress of the big city and lose yourself in the music. The festival is true to the Hacienda in that it will feature a variety of musical styles – everything from the classic sounds of Manchester to the modern sounds of dubstep.
The Hacienda events are the brainchild of Peter Hook, a true Manchester luminary who was part of not one, but two era defining bands – Joy Division and New Order. At this year’s festival Peter will be dusting off the bass and winding back the years to play some of Joy Division’s greatest hits with his new band “The Light”. Also on headline duty are a band who exemplify all the swagger of “Madchester”, The Charlatans:
Both days feature a great selection of both international and local talent. The top picks for Saturday will see international heavyweight DJ Carl Craig take to the decks for a very special set, as well as up and coming Siberian-born singer and DJ Nina Kravitz. Sunday’s line-up is just as strong, with Grammy award winning DJ/producer Sharam and modern Manchester legend Matt Edwards – better known as Radioslave:
Visitors will also be treated to some of Japan’s top DJs playing a smorgasboard of musical styles. There will be electro-rockers 80kidz showcasing their latest sounds, Techno god Ken Iishi and the electro-house of M-Flo’s Taku Takahashi. Also, for those that like to get down and dirty, there will be the dubstep rumblings of the inimitable Goth Trad:
Finally, let’s not forget that Tokyo Indie will be joining the party on Sunday with a special DJ set! We have a limited supply of the CHEAPEST tickets available for the festival, only for the friends of Tokyo Indie.
