Mocean Worker – Candygram for Mowo

MOCEAN WORKER TOKYO INDIE

Mocean Worker (pronounced “motion worker”) is the musical nom de plume of Adam Dorn, who’s genre defying sound (although I’ll try – a mixture of jazz, funk, club music, 30′s swing, hip-hop and pop) has proved popular with those in the know having been heavily used in film and advertising media.

Dorn looks set to keep this eclectic musical trend going with the release of his new album, “Candygram for Mowo”, with tracks like “Shooby Shooby Do Yah!” offering a retro 30′s swing jazz feel, big beat numbers like “Swagger” and “My Own Little World” which is peppered with rap (provided by Japanese-American rapper Lyrics Born).

The stand out track has to be “Mel’s Torment” which features a mellow mid-tempo jazzy groove built around a Rahsaan Roland Kirk flute sample. As a whole the album might seem a bit schizophrenic, but the tracks “Swagger” and “Ya Damn Right” have irresistible grooves that could yet capture the mainstream club crowd.
